Day 3 Machupicchu/Huaynapicchu

Day 3:  we woke early and boarded the train to aguas calientes to get ready for the most physically difficult part of our trip

 5:00 am:  boarding the train

arrive in town around 7:30am, and walked up 90 steps to our hotel!  Doesn't seem like a lot but due to high elevation and carrying our bags I was worn out!

The town of aguas calientes.  Notice that the train runs right through the middle of town.

The entrance sign to machupicchu (sorry that it is blurry but took it out of the bus window!)

standing on a walkway within the ruins of Machupicchu.  The clouds are still hanging low over the mountains

Entrance hut to huaynapicchu.  They spelled it phonetically so we would know how to say it.

 still looking happy!

Lots of steps!

The road the buses take from the town to the base of Machupicchu.

entrance to the tunnel, watch your head!

Where is the handrail to these steps?

Watch that last step!  You can see the ruins of Machupicchu to the right.

This is Manuel, our guide through the ruins.  If you ever go to Machupicchu, I would recommend him, he was very informative and a great photographer!

we are coming into the ruins from the Inca trail.  Huaynapicchu is the mountain rising up behind the ruins.

 J. is holding the picture of my dad and brother in the exact same spot nearly 25 years ago.

We are numbers 225 and 226.  They had you sign your name when you came in and when you left the hiking trail.  Sometimes people get lost or fall off the mountain, this ledger lets them know if they need to go search for someone!

Ahh, dinner!  This is my salad.

This is J's guinea pig!  Yep, that's right, he just ate someones pet!

Looking somewhat hesitant, but it tastes like chicken!

Goodnight!
